Gurnard & The Anchor!
Sophie and Finn’s wedding day dawned in early September. As is often the case, the rains of August had passed and Autumn was looking sublime. The couple had endured trials and tribulations to make it to this happiest of days and it was clear from the start that they both intended to make the absolute most of it. I met the bridal party in a rented house in the small coastal village of Gurnard. Tucked away to the West of Cowes and close to the shore that was the theme for their day. Meanwhile, along the coast in Cowes, Chris met the groom and his men in the garden of The Anchor Inn.
Both parties were in full celebration mode and were an utter joy to capture. A houseful of women helped Sophie prepare. With hair beautifully primped by ‘Everyone’s Looking Rosie‘ and make-up by the, always fabulous, Lynsey-Marie. The bride looked stunning in the ‘Coworth’ dress by Suzanne Neville at Francis Day Bridal, her Celine sunglasses completed a sophisticated and glamorous look that wouldn’t have been out of place on the Italian Riviera. The groom and groomsmen epitomised sailing chic in tan trousers with navy blazers from Osbourne’s of Cowes.
A Very Nautical Send Off!
Whilst Finn and his best men strolled along Cowes High Street to The Max Aitken Museum, the bridal party were transported in a Landrover 101, kindly lent by the bride’s employers at The Hut in Colwell Bay. Their ceremony venue is a museum dedicated to marine history, with the feel of an ancient ship. Dark polished wood and figureheads created an incredible atmosphere for the couple’s vows.
With formalities complete I joined the newly weds on Finn’s family launch ‘Firecrest’, a Botnia Targa 31, skipped by his Father from the ceremony to The Royal Yacht Squadron. In the meantime, Chris joined guests in the short walk between venues, capturing the wandering crowd being serenaded by their fantastic guitarist.
This wedding was special in ways that is difficult to articulate. The bride and groom shred a bond that is unusual even in newly wed couples and their family and friends were a joy to behold. Chris and I enjoyed every minute of documenting this incredible wedding day, as we do with each and every couple we are lucky enough to work with. The next day I got to return to the wedding party during their post-wedding celebrations at The Hut, but that is a story for another day!
Thank you Sophie and Finn for trusting us with your memories. Yours was a story we will always remember.
