Parading with Shademakers
In the run up to Ryde carnival 2022, Shademakers ran a series of workshops for The Waving the Flag Project. The renowned carnival company invited people of all ages to take part in creating costumes for the parades. Those involved created hundreds of paper flowers. Earlier in the year, Shademakers had been part of the parade in London for The Queen’s Platinum jubilee celebrations. A cardboard cut-out of Her Majesty preceded over the workshops! This was of course, prior to the sad passing of Queen Elizabeth II.
The Waving the Flag project supports the development of Ryde Carnival and is the cultural programme of Ryde High-street Action Zone. It is funded by Historic England, Arts Council England and The Heritage Fund UK.
