Ventnorville 2018

Ventnorville is a terrifically quirky event, held in Ventnor on the Isle of Wight each Christmas. The event spans 2 days and the whole of town. It includes a dog show and a ‘Bake-off’; as well as my favourites, a Santa Dash and Lantern Parade. The Grinch is a resident of Ventnor and as such, is always present! This Year my husband Chris and I, along with Chris’ boys attended just a few of the entertainments available.

The Santa Dash always kicks off proceedings. Despite the inclement weather, hundreds of Santas dashed across the beach to the finish line. Medals were collected and the beach Cafes were renewed by the mid-winter crowds. Later we went skating at Ventnor Winter Gardens. The Rink was small and made of plastic, but it was great fun and a great new edition to Ventnorville. Sunday evening presents my favourite part of the event. The lantern parade is a mini-carnival, which parades around the town after dark, concluding at Ventnor Park where the Bandstand and town Vicar host a beautiful candle-lit carol service.

On the Saturday evening I was lucky enough to catch the Ventnor Comic Jazz Band in full swing at The Blenheim in town. They are utterly fun and represent Ventnor at it’s creative and chaotic best! The following evening their numbers were much depleted and those in attendance looked a little worse for wear! Everyone has a great time at Ventnorville!
